During the course of the XX and XXI century, the Chinese republic experienced a long series of changes that reshaped it as a country and as a nation. As one of the oldest empires in the world, the Chinese have a long history of tradition, evolution and knowledge that they can share with the rest of the world and that contributes to give them a very unique personality and culture, forming a strong and ancient identity. The recen history of the Chinese republic has led to an explosive economical growth and a powerful expansion in the sphere of businesses that has positioned this country on the first line of the international market. With thousands of millions of people working to make this nation greater and more influencial year after year, it is no surprise that businesspeople from all around the world cast their eyes on China, as well as China casting its eyes upon the rest of the world.
The politics of the Chinese government are strongly encouraging the millions and millions of Chinese people to travel abroad and visit other countries. Every year, countless Chinese tourists travel across the globe, visiting new cultures and getting in contact with scenarios sometimes very different from their own. Businesses catering at Chinese people often have good prospects of growth and success, and the demand is increasing year after year. Also, the Chinese people massively travel to other countries to establish international relations, business deals and expand their own activities as one of today's economical powers in the world.
Even if the Chinese empire has established cultural and economical relationships with Western nations for many years, today's flow of capitals, people and knowledge follows a very characteristic pattern with an expanding centre in the Republic of China. All travelers who are not native English speakers can benefit greatly from learnin English, because it allows them to communicate with people from other countries and establish new relations, both personally and professionaly. For that reason, the number of Chinese people learning English is increasing, and this trend doesn't seem to stop. Millions of non Chinese people who speak English can find a job in China teaching this language without even the need for a teaching certification, such is the demand from the Chinese people. Of course, certified teachers tend to be much better at this job because they have been educated to have the tools and the knowledge in didactics and theory necessary to properly teach this language to non native speakers.
It can be difficult for Chinese people and English native speakers to understand one another because of the big differences in their languages, from the complex Chinese writing system and tonal language, to the semi arbitrary English pronunciation, but teachers who are properly trained will be able to break these cultural and language barriers and explain their leessons in a way that will come across and be constructive for all their students. Some English schools in the West have realized the dimension and importance of the Chinese demand for English classes and specialized in providing them the best educational services, with expertly trained teachers who understand Chinese and therefore are ideal for communicating with Chinese students. The Totally English academy in Belfast, for example, welcomes Chinese students every year and not only provides English classes, but also shows their students the British culture and people by taking them on trips uptown and letting them interact with the Irish people outside of the academy.
Native Chinese speakers who learn English are not only tourists or businesspeople who travel to the UK or other English speaking nations, but also expats who want to relocate temporarily or definitively to another place. The reasons are many, but the fact is that there are currently many Chinese expats in the United Kingdom; those of Chinese descent who are born here are native speakers of English and often English-Chinese bilinguals, but first generation expats need to learn the English language in order to become properly integrated to our society and our workplace. The language barrier can induce expats, not only from China but from any non English speaking country, to become more isolated and defenseless when dealing with the Brisith system of health, government and education. Also, not speaking the local language creates a rift that divides immigrants from locals, isolating them socially and preventing them from making new friends and family and getting more integrated with the British people who live around them. Learning English is definitively important for all of them.
