And Identities: Tales of the United Kingdom offers a chance to explore our family connections, past and present.
Or why not explore some of the themes below?
Scotland and Africa
The theme of this year’s Scottish International Storytelling Festival is Scotland and Africa: Out of Eden. Why not think about myths and legends and folk tales; stories of African rulers and history; animal stories; young people in Africa today; injustice, war and peace in Africa; modern societies in Africa; climate change; African literature; explorers; missionaries and campaigners.
Climate Chaos
Tell nature’s stories. Where has the life of planet Earth come from? Where is it now? Where is it going? If trees, animals, plants, insects, minerals, planets could speak… Perhaps they can? Think about the effect of global warming and climate change on men, women and children around the world, and the stories they have to tell.
Abolition of the Atlantic Slave Trade
2007 is the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. What about the stories of the people who suffered and struggled to be free, and the stories their families have to tell? Think about the stories of slave traders and of campaigners for abolition. Slavery then and now − has it really been abolished in today’s world?
Highland 2007
2007 is the Year of Highland Culture. Nowhere in the world has produced better stories and storytellers than Scotland’s Highlands and Islands. Myths, legends, Finn McCool and the clans, folk tales, fantasy and modern literature. Why not delve into the old stories or dream up something completely new for the Highlands now and in the future? Why not tell your tale in Gaelic or Scots.
